Lynn - Joyce A. (Murphy) Bassett, age 73, of Lynn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family after a sudden illness on February 9, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Charles J. Bassett, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage. They were married two years to the day after they met and were constant, loving companions from that day on. Raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late James and Rose (Kelly) Murphy. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cambridge. She had lived in Lynn for nearly 50 years.
Joyce was an avid quilter and also enjoyed pottery and painting. She was very creative and took several art classes. Joyce and Charlie's home was a frequent gathering place for family and friends, particularly the parties they threw on the 4th of July and Christmas. Joyce's family was very important to her and she cared for many of her nieces and nephews in their younger years so that their parents could work. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, especially her husband, sons and grandson.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her sons; C. J. Bassett and his girlfriend April Manning, and Craig Bassett; her grandchildren; Ryan Bassett and Olivia and Kyle Steinman; her siblings; James Murphy, Joe Murphy and his wife Donna, Judy Murphy and her fiancé Dennis Reilly, and Jerome Murphy and his wife Kathy; her sisters-in-law; Lauren Murphy, Rita Del Dotto, and Roberta Bassett, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Jan Murphy, her brothers-in-law, Paul Bassett and Albert Del Dotto, and her daughter-in-law, Ellen Bassett.
