The marriage of Miss Bassett
The marriage of Miss Bassett, elder daughter of Mr. Charles Bassett, the manager of the Provincial Banking Corporation in this town, was the cause of much rejoicing last Thursday. The contract was formed between Miss Ellen Bassett and Captain Gray, of Mountain Ash, and nephew of Mr. Nixon, of the colliery in that place, and both here and at Mountain Ash much interest was felt in the happy event. The bridal party were driven to St. David?s Church, Rhondda Valley, where the vicar of Cyfarthfa, and the Rev. John Davies, vicar of Llanwonno, officiated. The bride, who was elegantly attired, was attended by Miss Elizabeth Bassett, sister to the bride; Miss Leigh, of Llanvabon; Miss Agnes Williams, of Hirwain; Miss Caroline Price, and Miss Mary Price, both of Bridgend. Mr. W. James acted as ?best man,? and Mr. Wilkinson, Mr. Kay, Mr. Bell, and Dr. Edmonds also attended the bridegroom. The breakfast was served up at Mr. Bassett?s residence by Mr. Gwynn, of Merthyr, and was in his own well-known style. Mr. P. Price proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom, which the latter acknowledged in befitting terms, feeling the peculiarity of his position. Other toasts were duly honoured, and the happy pair left in the afternoon for Malvern, en route for Llandudno.
