      August 5, 1917 ? January 28, 2019

Russell Gardner Bassett, former Bountiful resident, died from an illness at age 101 on Monday, January 28, 2019, at Sagewood at Daybreak in South Jordan, Utah. Russell was born August 5, 1917, in Niter, Idaho, to Harry Freeman Bassett and Matilda Mae Gardner. He was the sixth of eight children: Lois, Harry, Glenys, Maxine (died at age 3), Alice, Russell, Helen, and William (Bill). All have now passed away but Bill.

Russ attended Idaho State College for two years. He served in the army infantry at the end of World War II. His unit trained for the anticipated invasion of Japan, which was preempted by the surrender of Japan.

He worked for Nabisco for 42 years, starting as a shipping clerk and ending as a district sales manager over Oregon and California. Russ married Yvonne Betty Keay on July 10, 1941, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They had two children, Steve and Susan. Betty and Susan preceded him in death. Russ married Verda Jones on October 14, 1999; Verda and Steve survive him.

Russ enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, golfing, dancing, working on his cabin, and perhaps most of all, traveling with family. He took many trips outside of the United States. He had a wonderful sense of humor and looked on the bright side of life. He was great companion to both to his of wives.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After a period of inactivity in the church he rekindled his faith and was pleased to do family temple work with his brother Bill. He will be buried in Eugene, Oregon.

Services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Sagewood at Daybreak, 11289 South Oakmond Road, South Jordan, Utah.
