Bassett Enters Navy on 17th Birthday
Dobbs Ferry - Henry Bassett, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin W. Bassett of 80 South Broadway, celebrated his seventeenth birthday on Tuesday by packing his bag and bidding farewell to his fellow pupils in Dobbs Ferry High School preparatory to reporting for training yesterday in the U.S. Navy.
Henry Bassett was a sophomore and was awarded a Varsity letter in football after last Fall’s campaign.

H.E. Bassett Gets Promotion In Navy
Dobbs Ferry - Henry Evans Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin W. Bassett of Cedar Crest Apartments, was promoted recently from apprentice seaman to fireman third class in the U.S. Navy.
Seaman Bassett received “boot-training” at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station after entering the services on March 31, 1943. He is now attending a service school for machinists’ mates. Two weeks ago, he spent nine days at home with his parents.

Henry Bassetts Are Making Home In Dobbs Ferry
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bassett, who were married on Saturday, February 11, in the rectory of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Dobbs Ferry with the Reverend John B. Conroy, pastor, officiating, have returned from a wedding trip and are residing on Maple Street in Dobbs Ferry.
Mrs. Bassett is the former Miss Kathleen Coffin, daughter of Charles F. Coffin of Bellewood Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, and the late Mrs. Coffin. Mr. Bassett is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin W. Bassett of 1 Estherwood Avenue, Dobbs Ferry.
The wedding was followed by a reception at the bride’s home. Her sister, Mrs. Andrew Will of Tarrytown was matron of honor and Robert Bassett of Hudson Terrace, Dobbs Ferry, a brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
The bride is a graduate of Dobbs Ferry High School and is a secretary with a New York firm.
Mr. Bassett is associated with the Grand Union Company. He is a Navy veteran of World War II and also attended Dobbs Ferry High School.

Dennis - Henry Evans Bassett, 80, formerly of Briarcliff Manor, New York, died February 14, 2007 after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Kathleen Coffin Bassett for 53 years.
Born in Tarrytown, New York, Mr. Bassett attended Dobbs Ferry High School, and served in the Navy during World War II. He was employed by General Foods Corp. for 26 years. He was a captain in the Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his sons, Henry Bassett Jr. of Vestal, New York, and Kenneth Bassett of Farmington, Maine; his daughters, Patricia Trapasso of Ossining, New York, and Susan Bassett of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.; his brother, Robert Bassett of Ossining, New York, and Matthew Bassett of Altus, Oklahoma, and his sister, Kathryn McNichols of Tarrytown, New York. Also surviving are three grandchildren, and great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Sunday, February 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis.
A funeral service will be held Monday in the funeral home at 10 a.m., followed by an interment at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Route 134, South Dennis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Heatherwood in Yarmouthport.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local volunteer fire department.
