      Mr. Joseph H. Burch, 87, of Southbury passed peacefully into eternal rest Wednesday October 14, 2009 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. He was the husband of the late Mary (Almeida) Burch. Mr. Burch was born June 24, 1922 in Far Rockaway, Long Island, New York son of the late Guy H. and Grace (Bessette) Burch. He was employed by Avco-Lycoming in Stratford as a toolmaker until his retirement.
      He spent his retirement years enjoying the good life with his wife in Brewster, Massachusetts and later moved back to Woodbury in 2006. He was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church and was a member of the Naugatuck Knights of Columbus. He served in the US Army in WWII as a 1st gunner and ammunition NCL where he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a Victory medal. He also received the Bronze Star in the Philippine Liberation and a Bronze metal in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign. He loved to walk and talk to his neighbors. He was also an outstanding cook and treated family members to many luscious meals.
      He is survived by two brothers, Alfred W. Burch of Woodbury and Guy D. Burch and his wife Teresa of New Milford, a sister Marguerite Morsey of Roxbury, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
      Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the memory care unit of the Lutheran Home, 990 Main St. North, Southbury, Ct 06488, where he was so lovingly cared for by all the staff.

      Funeral: St. Teresa's Church
      Services: Funeral services will be held on Friday October 16th at 10: 30am at St. Teresa's Church, Woodbury. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.
      Visitation: Friends may call at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 2 School St., on Friday October 16th from 9: 00 - 10: 00am.
