J.N. Bass, Veteran Of Civil War Dies
Father of Mrs. J.R. Cole of This City Succumbs at Age of 80
Long Illness
J.N. Bass, father of Mrs. J.R. Cole, jr., of 712 South Bosotn avenue, died last night about 9 o?clock. Mr. Bass was 80 years of age and has been in poor health for several years. For the past year he has been conhfined to his bed, growing weakr as the days passed, and his death at this time was not unexpected.
Born in Tennessee and reared in Arkansas Mr. Bass enlisted in the confederate service from Texas under the leadership of General Cabell, ?Old Tige,? and surrendered with his command at Vicksburg when that city was captured by the union forces.fter the war Mr. Bass? life was spent in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma, where for most of the time he was in the mercantile business. He was actively engaged in business here for years until advanced age forced his retirement. He was a member of the Boston Avenue Methodist church and active in the church life of this city. While in Tulsa he always made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J.R. Cole, jr. In addition to Mrs. Cole, he is survived y his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Leonard of Gainesville, Texas; another daughter, Mrs. Easley of Ardmore, Okla, and one son, A.A. Bass of this city.
The funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. J.R. Cole, jr., 712 South Boston avenue, Wednesday morning at 10 o?clock.
