      Judge Henry Bass Buried at Hickory Point Sunday, 13th
      Former Member of Miller County Court Died March 9th at Fairview, Kas.

      Judge Henry J. Bass, a native of Miller county, but who has been living in Kansas for several years, died Wednesday of last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anderson Wall, at Fairview, that state.

      Judge Bass was born in Miller county March 18, 1859, a son of William and Melvina McCubbin Bass. He grew to manhood in this county, and in February 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Nichols, who preceded him in death February 20, 1899. (Records show he married Mary Emma Nichols 27 Feb 1882 in Miller County, Missouri.)

      He engaged in farming, and for many hears lived in the Keyes school district, near Ulman. In 1914 he was elected on the Republican ticket as Judge of the County Court from the Second district, serving in 1915 and 1916 as a member of the Court in a creditable manner.

      He united with the Ulman Baptist church in 1908, and on January 1, 1922, he was ordained as a deacon, retaining his membership there until death, during which time he lived a consistent Christian life.

      Judge Bass made his home with his daughters after the death of his wife; part of the time near Ulman and in recent years with them in Kansas.

      He leaves to mourn his death two children- Mrs. Frank (Effie) Sipe of Wichita, Kas., and Mrs. Anderson (Flora) Wall of Fairview, Kas. He also leaves five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There are two surviving brothers-John M. Bass of Golden City and Rial S. Bass of Sacramento, Cal., also one sister- Mrs. Sarah Martin of Ulman.

      The body of Judge Bass was brought to Ulman by Adams & Casey, Iberia undertakers, and following services conducted at the Ulman Baptist church by Rev. Harry Zumwalt, Baptist minister of Richland, burial was beside his wife in Hickory Point cemetery. Pallbearers were Wallace and Sammy Sipe, grandsons; Joe Stark, grandson by marriage; and Gail Hix; Charley Myers and Astor Myers, grandnephews.

      Mr. Henry J. Bass died Wednesday afternoon March 9 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Robert Wall following an illness of many months. For over two years he has been totally blind and has been bedfast for months, so his death came as a release from much suffering. He had made his home with the Walls for many years; they have lived in the Lone Star district for over six years.

      Mr. Bass was 77 years, 11 months and 22 days old.

      Besides his daughter, Mrs. Wall, he leaves another daughter, Mrs. Frank Sipe of Wichita, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and also 2 brothers.

      Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Hargis Funeral Home here in Fairview. Following the services the body was taken to Eldon, Missouri for burial
