Anna M. Riley
PORT LEYDEN – Anna M. Riley, 87, Kelpytown Road, widow of Alex Riley, died Wednesday morning, June 8, 1994, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where she had been a patient since June 1.
Born on November 28, 1906, in the Town of Leyden, daughter of Gilbert and Millicent Griffin Bassett, she attended Port Leyden schools, and married Alex Riley on November 10, 1923, in the rectory of St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Mr. Riley, a retired plumber and heating contractor, died June 9, 1987.
Mrs. Riley was a communicant of St. Martin’s Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sons, John “Jack” Riley, Port Leyden, and Robert Riley, Westmoreland; three daughters, Nancy Porceng, Syracuse, Margaret Steiner, Croghan, and Mrs. Douglas (Barbara) Shue, Sherrill; two brothers, Kenneth Bassett, Maine, and Roy Bassett, Ogdensburg; a sister, Mae Mathis, Boonville; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, 1994, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Cosmic, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours were held on Thursday at the family home, where a Christian wake service was held at 6 p.m. and members of the Port Leyden Fire Department and Auxiliary paid their respects at 7 p.m. Arrangements were with the Callaghan Funeral Home.
