Barabara A. Shue (1924-2013) (Picture included)
SHERRILL >> Barbara A. Shue, age 89, of East Hamilton Avenue passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon Nov. 12, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.She was born on Feb. 21, 1924 in Kelpytown, N.Y., daughter of the late Alex and Anna (Bassett) Riley. She was a graduate of Port Leyden High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She later went on to receive her registered nursing degree from Utica State Hospital School of Nursing. On May 15, 1945 Barbara entered the Army <http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/army/?personid=167987184&affiliateID=1859> Nurse Corps where she served as a charge nurse until her discharge from WW II on Aug. 27, 1946.On Nov. 4, 1946 Barbara and Douglas J. Shue were united in marriage in Port Leyden, N.Y. and the couple has shared a loving union of over 67 years together.In 1951 Barbara joined the staff of Oneida City Hospital where she worked until 1966 when she then joined the staff of the Oneida Limited visiting nurses where she retired in May of 1985.She was a member of St. Helena's Church, a past member of the V.V.S. Sports Booster Club where she was very active with her family and a member of The Oneida Limited CAC and Retirement Clubs. She enjoyed spending her winters in Florida, traveling, camping with family and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.Surviving are her husband Douglas J. Shue and their eight children and their spouses and their families, Alex (Cindy) Shue and their family Heidi Wright, Heather Chatman, Andree Hickok, Matt Curtis and Melanie Curtis-Grillett, Patrick (Brittanie) Shue and their family, Kelly Barber and Emily Chapman, Douglas (Linda) Shue and their family, Adam Shue, John Mulroy and Jan Mulroy-Boucher, Sharon (Bruce) Herendeen, Peter (Kathy) Shue and their family Shannon, Jason and Colan Shue, the triplets and their families, Mark Shue and his family, Ashley McCabe and Sidney Cossitt-Shue, Matthew (Sally) Shue and their family Ryan, Erin and Kara Shue, and Michael (Dottie) Shue and their family, Randi Hull, Jeff Hull and Mackenzie Usborne; one sister-in-law, Sally Riley and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to special people Anna Quinn and Sue Adams-LaLonde for their kind and compassionate care given to Barb during her stay at home.Barb was predeceased by her two brothers, Jack and Bob Riley and her two sisters, Midge Steiner and Nancy Porceng.Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 464 Sherrill Road, Sherrill. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Helena's Church, Primo Avenue, Sherrill. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Helena's Cemetery, Oneida, N.Y. Donations in memory of Barb may be sent to St. Helena's Church, 210 Primo Ave., Sherrill, for Thanksgiving and Christmas offerings to families of need in the community.
