His Father Dies
W.E. Bass, 72 years old, of Lucas, Ia., died at 6:30 o?clock Tuesday night at his home He was the father of V.E. Bass, of Albany. News of his death came as a distinct shock to the son here for on Tuesday he had received a letter from his father saying that he was feeling much better.
Mr. Bass? death was due to heart trouble and he had been ill for the past two weeks. It was the first illness he had ever had in his lifetime.
Mr. Bass was a retired coal miner. He had worked at one time at Lucas under John L. Lewis, the two men working together in the mines there and Mr. Bass joined the union that Lewis started there. Mr. Bass retired about 15 years ago.
He is survived by his widow and by two sons and three daughters. They are: V.E. Bass, of Albany; Henry Bass, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Leora Gulley, of Saugus, Calif., Mrs. Loise Penrod, of Pratt, Kan., and Mrs. Fonda Bonnett, of Chariton, Ia.
He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Violet Baker, of Leon, Ia., and Mrs. Mae Jonagan, of Denver, Colo., besides other relatives and many friends.
Mr. Bass was a member of the Methodist church and had been for many years.
Mr. and Mrs. Bass went Tuesday night to Lucas after receiving word of the death. Funeral arrangements were not to be determined until Mr. bass reached Lucas.
