William “Bill” Bassett (picture included)
William (Bill) Bassett was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 12, 1941, and passed away to be with our Lord on February 28, 2009, at age 67. He moved to Austin, Texas, at age 19 and enlisted in the Navy, serving on the U.S.S. Independence. After his return from the service, he was employed by S.W. Bell for 39 years, retiring in 1999. Bill is survived by his wife Nancy of 42 years; his three children, Bryan, Robert and Kristina Pettigrew and her husband, Les. Bill also had two grandchildren, Sienna and Logan that he loved dearly, taking them on countless stroller walks around the neighborhood. Bill is survived by his brother, James; and his two sisters, Anne Zahn and Michelle Vela; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Bill was a generous and loving husband with an infectious laugh and always with a story, idea, or joke to tell. He enjoyed spending time with his family and going on numerous vacations abroad. He was preceded in death by his father Paul and mother Helen Bassett. A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/ Forest Oaks. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Robert G. Zurovec, David A. Johnson, Heath A. Johnson, Cord Zahn, Chuck Zahn and William Borrer.
