Floyd J. Bass
CLINTON - Mr. Floyd J. Bass, 84, of 105 Owl Roost, died at his home Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Gibson and the Rev. Sam Loy officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinton Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Born in 1929 in Sampson County, Mr. Bass was the son of the late Simon and Frances Simmons Bass. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, former chairman of the administrative council and former chairman of the ushers. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge #98 AF&AM, Scottish Rite & Sudan Temple and past director and president of the State Employees Association of N.C. He was a retired engineer with the N.C. Department of Transportation with 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Callie Jones Bass; a daughter, Shelia P. Smith of Clinton; a sister, Clara Tart of Garner; nine grandchildren, Lisa Lambert, Kriste Simmons, Jeff Smith, Courtney Housman, Whitney Lawson, Carrie Dimmick, Amy Floyd, Bobby Austin and Hannah Lee; eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Alan Bass and a daughter, Mary Frances Austin. The family will receive friends today, Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Royal-Hall Funeral Home and other times at his home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund at Grace United Methodist Church, 800 Smith St., Clinton, NC 28328.
