James R. Bessette
Dartmouth ? James R. Bessette, 82, of Dartmouth passed away at home on June 22, 2017. He was the husband of Alice (Carvalho) Bessette.
Mr. Bessette was born in New Bedford, son of the late Leonel J. and Aurore M. (Arsenault) Bessette, and resided in the greater New Bedford area all of his life. He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church. He worked as a self-employed painter until his retirement. He was a member of the 6th Bristol Club. He enjoyed making people laugh, golf and was an avid card player.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by 2 sons: Christopher Bessette of Dartmouth and Matthew Cornell of New Bedford; 6 daughters: Charlene Barlow of Dennis, MA, Tammy Stevens of Dartmouth, Heidi Bessette of Somerset, Holly Deluca of Fall River, Marilyn Baker of Florida, and Maureen McAuliffe of Dartmouth; 2 brothers: Dennis Bessette of Florida and Robert J. Bessette of New Bedford; 4 sisters: Lorraine LeBlanc of Rhode Island, Doris Phillips of Michigan, Diane Brodo of Dartmouth and Lea Gregoire of Fairhaven; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
He was father of the late: Jesse Auger, Mark Cornell, Melanie Baker and Melissa Cornell; and brother of the late: Donald Bessette and Francis Bessette.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford on Saturday, June 24, 2017, 11:00 A.M.- 1:30 P.M. followed immediately by funeral services at 1:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one?s choice.
