Bernard E. Bassett
Bernard E. Bassett (Uncle Bernie) was a man of few words but always ready with his words of wisdom. Yes, often times the words of wisdom were hilarious, off kilter and probably inappropriate, but so wasn't Uncle Bernie. He was also kind, hardworking and extremely quick witted, with knowledge for most everything. Affectionately known as the "funcle", he always showed up for his family and was always ready to have a good time. He enjoyed a good card game and would never turn down a trip to the casino. He enjoyed many years working at Marty's 1st Stop, where he not only made many friends, but he also got to enjoy spending time with his brother, Greg.
Uncle Bernie passed away on Aug. 24, 2024, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. It was a massive heart attack that stopped him and not all the years of fun (enjoy life people!). He passed peacefully with his family by his side. Born on Nov. 30, 1953, in Hardwick, Vermont, number 10 of 15 children (WHAT!) he leaves behind many family and friends that will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held Sept. 1, 2024, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the VFW Lyndonville Post # 10038 156 Hill St, Lyndonville, Vt. There is no doubt if Uncle Bernie were here today, he would absolutely want us to end this announcement with his signature line "I have fallen, and I can't get up." Gone but never forgotten, a seat will always be saved for him.
