      Lessie Durham Dies
      Mrs. Lessie May Durham, 81, died at the family home at 7:40 p.m. Sunday, May 26, after an illness of about four years. Mrs. Durham was born in Ava, Missouri, September 20, 1892, the daughter of William Franklin and Nancy Elizabeth Bass. She moved with her parents to Liberal in 1916 and was employed in the drug store in Liberal for many years. On November 15, 1934, she married Howard Durham in Lamar, they moved to the home on Walser Avenue where she died. They lived away from here for short periods in Wichita and in Page, Arizona. Mrs. Durham was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Liberal, Royal Neighbors Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include the widower of the home; one sister, Mrs. Mary E. (Marie) Clark of a nursing home, Greenfield; one brother, Clyde Bass, Lawrence, Kansas; nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Christian Church with the Reverend Frank Leohr officiating. Mrs. Donna Harvey was organist and accompanied the soloist, Vernon Snodgrass. Pallbearers were Ed Frohm, Elmer Peal, Harry Morrison, Ernest Harvey, Jim McClendon and Harold Rogers. Interment was in the Liberal City Cemetery, under direction of the Berkey Funeral Service of Mulberry, Kansas.
      "Buried at Liberal, Missouri - Lessie Bass lived in Monnett, Missouri in 1911. Lessie Bass February 8, 1927 lived at Halfway, Missouri according to correspondence found in family belongings of Mary T. Bass, the postcard was from Joe and postmarked Libida, Missouri. Lessie's funeral services were at the Liberal First Christian Church, Liberal, Missouri on May 29, 1974. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Liberal, Missouri, Royal Neighbors Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. Buried at Liberal, Missouri."
