Jack Bass
Jack was born on July 19, 1927 and passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Jack was a resident of Boone, Iowa at the time of his passing. Jack was a 1945 graduate of Boone High School. Jack attended Boone Junior College. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1945 and served for two and a half years including a stint in China immediately following WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1948. In accordance with Jack's wishes there will be a private family service and internment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Fred K. Jack Bass
Jack Bass, 88, lifelong Boone resident, passed away at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, where he had resided since December 2015.
He was born on July 19, 1927 in Boone, Iowa to Edward and Ella (McBride) Bass.
On December, 17, 1952 he married Ella Jane Shell in Boone. The couple had five children.
Jack was a 1945 graduate of Boone High School. He participated in several sports and excelled in baseball as a pitcher on the high school team. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1945 and served for two and a half years, including a stint in China immediately following WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1948.
Following his discharge, Jack attended Boone Junior College where he also played baseball. He continued playing semi-professional baseball in the area after he graduated. He worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for two years and then began his lifelong career at the Iowa Electric Light and Power Plant in Boone. He retired at the time the Boone plant was closed.
Jack enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball in Boone starting in 1956 with the Knights of Columbus Giants; he also coached several Little League All-Star teams, one of which went to the state finals in 1957. Several of his KC Giants stayed in touch over the years. Jack also enjoyed hunting and fishing and following the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a passionate supporter of his grandchildren and was proud of all their accomplishments.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Mary Titoni and Alice Upchurch) and two brothers (Richard and George).
He is survived by five children; three daughters: Joan (Daryl) Faust, Boone; Janine (Ben) Bennett, Boone; Chris, Ann Arbor, Michigan; and two sons: Matt, Duluth, Minnesota; and Chad (Jill) Bass, Boone; five grandchildren: Mike (Ali) Faust, Austin, Texas; Megan (Matt) Rigg, Des Moines; Kelli (Justus) Harris, Norwalk; Sam Bass, Carbondale, Illinois, and Wendy Bass, Boone; two great grandchildren, Will and Max Faust, Austin, Texas; and his sister, Betty Pepper, Ames, Iowa, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Jack's wishes, there will be a private family service and internment at a later date.
