Mrs. R. Felix Bassett Dies in Newton Home

After several months illness, Mrs. R. Felix Bassett died at her home in Newton last Friday morning. Mrs. Bassett was taken ill a number of months ago, and was carried to the Newton Infirmary where she underwent a serious operation about a month before her death.
Mrs. Majorie Allen Bassett was born at Cato, in Rankin County, February 3, 1890,. She was the daughter of the Late W.A. Allen and Mrs. Allen Worley.
Mrs. Bassett was a woman of Christian ideals, and a wonderful mother. She was well known and well loved, being a character of sterling qualities. She was of a friendly nature, making friends readily everywhere she went.
Mrs. Bassett came to Newton in young womanhood and was employed as a nurse at the local hospital. She was married R. Felix Bassett, January 11, 1912.
In her critical illness she was ever thoughtful of others first, so appreciative of the least things done for her comfort. In her passing, Newton loses one of its best Christian women.
Mrs. Bassett died in the prime of her life, being only forty three years of age.
Surviving are her husband, R. Felix Bassett; two daughters, Margie Allen and Dixie Lois; one son, James Lee; her mother, Mrs. Willie B. Worley of Jackson; and two brothers H. V. Allen and J.W. Allen, both of Jackson.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning in the Baptist Church with Rev. J.E. Wills, pastor in charge, assisted by Rev. C.M. Crosley, pastor of the Methodist Church. they both paid high tribute to the life Mrs. Bassett lived. The beautiful floral offerings attested to the high esteem in which she was held by all.
Active pall bearers were J.L. Summer, W.A. Byrd, M.H. McMullan, A.S. Burns, M.B. Osborne and J.A. Boutwell.
Interment was in the Night of Pythias cemetery, with J.T. Thrash in charge of all arrangements.
