Joe Knox Bass
Completed arrangements are being announced for Joe Knox Bass, 75, of Union City, who died June 8, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City. Services will be 1 pm Thursday at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.E. McCadney officiating. Burial will follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Willie Hayslett, Billy Hayslett, Jeffery Hayslett, Orrin Clark, Kyonn Genes, and George Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be trustees of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Friends may call at the church from 11 am until the hour of services Thursday. Rawls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 11, 1934, in Rives, son of the late Joe Davis and Roxie (Dickey) Bass. He was married to Ealer (Clark) Bass May 6, 1962. She survives. He was a retired employee of the former Kinkead, now Kohler, and had been a van driver for Northwest Tennessee Human Resources. He had been a member of Brown Chapel AME Church and was a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter.
Survivors also include two daughters, Shelia Bass of Union City and Karen Murphy of Atlanta; two sons, Joe Williams of Detroit and Kim Simpson of Kenton; two sisters, Jessie Mai Haskins and Mai Ethel Hayslett, both of Union City; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe Nathan Clark and Ernestine Clark, both of Union City; and six grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Knox Bass and Gary Knox Williams; and four brothers, J.C. Bass, M.T. Bass, Wallace Bass, and Henry Bass.
