Howard ?Sam? Bass
CHESAPEAKE - Howard "Sam" Bass, 83, of the 200 block of Marshwood Court, passed away Dec. 15, 2005, in Chesapeake.
A native of Garden City, Kan., he was the son of the late Clifford and Mamie Bass and the widower of Phyllis C. Bass. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer after 20 years of service and also retired from civil service. He was a Naval veteran of World War II and Korea.
He is survived by his daughter, Maureen Stahle and her husband Robin of Kernersville, N.C.; two sons, James Edward Bass of North Carolina and Jerry McPeeks and his wife Karen of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren, Megan Stahle and Jason McIntyre of North Carolina, Landon C. McPeeks, Brittany A. McPeeks, Chelsea L. McPeeks, Joshua McPeeks, Dylan McPeeks and Michael McPeeks, all of Chesapeake; a great-grandson, Michael McIntyre of North Carolina; and a sister, Maxine Ulmer of California.
A graveside service will be conducted Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, is handling the arrangements. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
