Henry Ellis Bass
OXFORD, Miss. -- Henry Ellis Bass, a physicist and acoustics researcher whose work helped track tornadoes and monitor nuclear tests, has died. He was 64.
A University of Mississippi news release said Bass died Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi after a long but unspecified illness.
Bass, of Tulsa, Okla., received the Acoustical Society of America's Silver Medal in 2006 for his technical contributions to the field.

Dr. Henry Ellis Bass
Dr. Henry Ellis Bass, age 64, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS.
Having been born in Tulsa, OK, Dr. Bass had lived in Oxford since 1970. He was a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. Dr. Bass was also retired as the Director for the National Center for Physical Acoustics and FAP Barnard Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy from the University of Mississippi. A member of numerous professional organizations, he was an associate editor of the Journal of Acoustical Society of America. Dr. Bass attended St. Peter?s Episcopal Church in Oxford, MS.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 30, 2008, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Ford Center at the University of Mississippi. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Bass of Oxford, MS; his mother, Hazel Bass of Oxford, MS; two daughters, Belinda Heflin of Collierville, TN and Christine Ware of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, Henry Bass, Jr. of Collierville, TN and Duncan Bass of Oxford, MS; one sister, Charlotte Conley of Elkhart, IN.
