Mr. George Bass
Death of Well-Known Religious Worker
We regret to report the death which occurred at Raunds, on Thursday, of Mr. George Bass, formerly of Northampton. Mr. Bass had attained a ripe old age, and passed away in his 86th year. Mr. Bass, how left Northampton in 1903, and was married to Mrs. Margaret Bass, widow of the late Mr. George Bass of Raunds, will be remembered as a gentleman who was greatly esteemed in religions and temperance circles in Northampton.
He was a faithful and regular supporter of Doddridge Church and tis branches for many years, and on the occasion of his departure, friends in all quarters of local Congregationalism and in Temperance work united to express in tangible forms their appreciation of his self sacrificing labours during those years.
Mr. Bass was a pioneer in the effort which resulted in the establishment of a Congregational Church at St. James?, now Doddridge memorial and after rendering valuable service there, went to Primrose Hill, where matters at that time were at low ebb. here he worked a transformation, and was instrumental in raising the organization there, and the various institutions in connection with the church to a high level of efficiency.
The late Mr. Bass carried on business as a shoe manufacturer with a factory on the Mounts. He retired in August, 1896.
