Charles H. Bassett
Charles H. Bassett, 76, of 24 Noblehurst Ave., longtime resident and veteran of World War I, died yesterday at the Pittsfield General unit, BMC.
Born in Burlington, Vt., he had been a resident of Pittsfield for 60 years. Mr. Bassett was a communicant of St. Teresa’s Church. A member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, he held life membership in the Disabled American Veterans Society.
Mr. Bassett and his wife, the former Mary Barry, celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary in June.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles Bassett Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Bernard F. Herrmann, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Richards of Renton, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Austin of Pittsfield; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday morning from the Dery Funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Teresa’s Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home tomorrow and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
