      Mrs. C.H. Bassett Dies Tuesday
      Mrs. C.H. Bassett

Just a year after the death of her husband, Capt. C.H. Bassett of Harrow, Mrs. Bassett passed away late Tuesday afternoon. Up to Christmas she had been in her usual good health, then she fell and broke a small bone in her ankle. This was followed two weeks ago with a stroke of paralysis and from that time she gradually weakened until death came very peacefully as she sleft.
Arrangements were made to hold the funeral this Thursday afternoon to the Baptist Church for services and burial was in the Iler Settlement cemetery beside her husband, who died in january, 1936. He also was 90 years of age, which gave them prominence as the oldest couple in South Essex. Mrs. Bassett was born Susan Iler, daughter of John and Anne Iler of the Iler Settlement, and she was married to Captain Bassett 55 years ago. They had one daughter, Faye, wife of Councillor Howard Heaton, Harrow.
Some 20 years ago the Bassetts sold their farm, east of Harrow, to Frank Walton, township treasurer, and moved to town to live a retired life. In spite of that they remained active in community affairs. Two years ago she was chosen as the oldest member of the Harrow W.I. to accompany that body to the Hepburn Liberal meeting in Amherstburg and had the honor of presenting the now Premier of Ontario with a scroll. Mrs. Hughson, since also deceased, presented a scroll to Lambert P. Wigle, afterwards elected M.L.A. for South Essex. Mrs. Bassett retained remarkable health and strength until Christmas, as mentioned above. The only two surviving members of the Iler family are her sister,
Mrs. Anne Fox, who was at her bedside the past few weeks, and brother Alson Iler of Colchester South.
