Cathy Bradshaw Bass

Cathy Joyce Bradshaw Bass, (Age 66), affectionately known as "Weewa" to her grandkids, returned to her Heavenly Father peacefully on February 17, 2015. She was surrounded by her family.
Cathy is the daughter of George Bradshaw and Elizabeth Byrd Bradshaw, who predeceased her. She is the wife of Richard Lee Bass. She was preceded in death by her sister JoAnne Bradshaw.
Cathy lived the example of kindness guided by her faith and strength in Christ. She always offered a positive attitude, a kind word, a caring touch and maybe even subtle bullying when needed. One of her greatest joys was giving of herself. As a lifetime active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she found great joy in serving others. She loved serving in her local church ward where she actively served on numerous church auxiliaries committees.
Cathy retired from Edgecombe Community College after 29 years where she was employed as the Administrative Assistant to two college presidents. Cathy was well-known throughout her community by college students who she influenced along the way.
She had a great love for her family and friends, and enjoyed spending time with them making treasured memories filled with love and laughter. She adored her grandkids and especially loved spending time with them. She loved watching sports, especially any in which her grandkids participated. It was not unusual to find her at one of their games cheering them on from the sidelines.
She did her best to instill in her family a strong sense of right and wrong, self-worth, a love for family, and a desire to help others. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to pursue a good education, develop their talents, experience spiritual growth, and serve others in the community. We will miss her wisdom, keen intellect, sense of humor, and the way she made everyone feel loved in her own special way.
Cathy leaves a legacy of her "Be a Happifier" approach to life, and her legacy of love, service, and laughter to her family. She is survived by her husband, Richard Lee Bass of Tarboro, her two children, Jeff Allen Bass of Durham and Beth Bass Brehler and husband, Andrew James Brehler of Mebane. She is also survived by her sister Phyllis Bradshaw Talbot of Tarboro, her six grandchildren, Joshua Coley and wife Brittney, Jacob Coley, Madison Coley, Gryffin Brehler, Max Brehler and Joel Bass, and her great-granddaughter, Evelyn Coley. She also carries with her a bond of love with her nieces, nephews, extended family members, her numerous "adopted" children and grandchildren, and many other special friends. Cathy will always be remembered for her quick smile, her love of family, and her helping hands.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Rocky Mount, NC. Funeral arrangements are by Carlisle Funeral Home in Tarboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Cathy to Duke Hospice-Hock Family Pavilion at 4023 N. Roxboro Rd. Durham, NC 27704.
