Eugene G. Bessette
FAIRFIELD – Eugene G. Bessette, 66, passed away at home, July 24, 1997, after a long illness. He faced his final days with undaunting courage, faith, spirit and humor.
He was born in Fairfield, July 5, 1931, son of the late Arthur Bessette and Helen (Tourangeau) Bessette.
Eugene owned and operated the Bessette family farm for 30 years. Before that he worked as a Master Carpenter in Connecticut. He was an avid hunter and in November of 1967, he shot and killed the largest deer in Franklin County.
Eugene was predeceased by his wife, Norma Allison Brooks on July 20, 1995.
His survivors include three children and their spouses, Deborah and Thomas Minckler of Fairfield, Bruce and Lynn Davis of Fairfield, and Rick and Julie Bessette of Swanton; five grandchildren, Molly and Glen Minckley and Lucas, Jessica and Ashley Davis, all of Fairfield; two brothers, Donald and Charles Bessette and two sisters, Helen and Lucille Orvis. He was predeceased by two brother, Wallace and Theodore Bessette and two sisters, Hilda Talcott and Harriett Campbell.
He was loved deeply by his family and friends, he gave unconditional love, acceptance and many years of happiness to all those around him. He will be remembered for his strength, wisdom and for all the lessons he taught each child and grandchild, respecting God’s land and the beautiful creatures on God’s earth. Eugene will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private service will be held at the Bessette family residence in Fairfield on Sunday, August 3, 1997 at 1 p.m. Gifts in Eugene’s memory may be made to the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife. Arrangements are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, Swanton.
