According to one family tale, after her husband ran off and left her and her kids, Eva married a man by the name of Beemer who was a gambler and operated a saloon in Effingham until his death. Jesse James frequented this saloon to gamble every once in a while. Beemer had one son, Brace Beemer who was later to become the first Lone Ranger on television. Whether this tale is true or as the census suggests her being a widow is not known for sure at the present time.
