Garland Lewis Bass, Jr.
Mr. Garland Lewis Bass, Jr., age eighty-one, departed his earthly life and entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, North Carolina. He was born in Person County April 28, 1945 to the late Garland, Sr. and Mattie Ragland Bass and was a member of the Temple of Deliverance Christ Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Cather??ine Bass; and siblings: Jean Isadora Garcia, Wayne Norris Bass, Brenda Ray, Andre` Bass, Harry Bass, Michael Bass, Leora Powell and Yvonne Talley. He leaves to cherish precious memories, his children: Theresa Bass and Gloria Bass-Bailey (Kenny) of Durham, North Carolina, Bernice Daye (Sakeitha), Joyce Sheeley (Johnnie), Jerry Bass (Anna), and Dennis Bass (Rose), all of Roxboro, North Carolina, Joan Bass Evans (Tim) and Thomas Bass, also of Durham and Shondah Williams of Roxboro; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; siblings: Reginald Bass (Esther) of Timberlake, North Carolina, Joan Britton (Tony) of Taylor, South Carolina, Myrtle Tucker (John) of Roxboro, Theora Yellock of Burlington, North Carolina, Shelia Outlaw (Michael) of Roxboro and Angela Russell (Nathan) of Durham; two special nieces: Tracy Wilkerson (Mike) of Roxboro and Schenner Walker of Baltimore, Maryland; two aunts: Lois Bass of Baltimore and Helen Brogdon of Durham; an uncle, Anthony Fields of Mebane, North Carolina; and a host of other nieces, nephews, other additional loving relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 12:00pm at Old Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1111 Oak Grove Mt. Zion Road, Roxboro, North Carolina 27574, with Overseer Mary Short-Scoggins, Pastor at the Temple of Deliverance Christ Church in Roxboro, providing the eulogy. Burial will follow at the church Cemetery. Visitation will also be Tuesday at the church from 11:00am to 12:00pm when his body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
