Bernice Kirk Bass, 101, of Middleton, passed from this life on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at AHC of McNairy County in Selmer.
A lifelong resident of Hardeman County, Mrs. Bass was born Saturday, February 16, 1924, to the late Jessie Kirk and Ora Galloway Kirk. She was married to Leroy Bass on January 6, 1945, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2001. She was a member of Porters Creek Church and worked at Harmon Auto for 28 years. She enjoyed gardening, mowing and working in the yard, but especially loved her great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Norma Sue Vickers (Buddy) of Middleton; two brothers, James D. Kirk (Linda) of Middleton and Leon Kirk (Lottie) of Olive Branch, MS; a sister in law, Tommie Sue Kirk of Middleton; 2 grandchildren, Amy Diane Frost and Bryan Lee Bass; two great grandchildren, Kylie Brook Frost and Khloe De Holden; a daughter in law, Dennie Bass of Rossville, 9 nieces and 6 nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie Lee Bass, 4 brothers, C.W. Kirk, Frank Kirk, Wilbert Kirk and Roy Kirk, a sister, Louise Leadford and a sister in law, Velma Kirk.
Services are Noon, Monday, June 16, 2025, at Shackelford Funeral Directors Middleton chapel with burial in Reaves Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 15th from 6-8 pm and begin after 10 am Monday all at the funeral home in Middleton. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Porters Creek Baptist Church.
