Ninety Years Old
And Then Mrs. Bassett Leaves This Earthly World
Mrs. Lucette Bassett, aged 90 years, died yesterday afternoon at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. H.C. Bilyea, of 236 West Kennedy-st. Death was due to senility.
Mrs. Bassett was born on a farm in New Berlin, N.Y., on June 10, 1811. When young she was married to Hiram H. Bassett, who was a farmer in New Berlin and they took up their home on a farm there. Eleven years ago her husband died and a week later her son, Edgar, died, leaving Mrs. Bassett alone on the farm. Six years ago she moved to the home of her granddaughter in this city. Mrs. Bassett had taken full charge of the farm and had worked daily on it, caring for it mostly herself.
Nine months ago, while in the kitchen of her granddaughter, Mrs. Bassett fell on the floor and severely injured her hips. Since the accident she seemed to have lost some of her faculties. It is thought that her injury was the main cause of her death.
Mrs. Bassett is survived by three grandchildren, W.L. Bassett, H.R. Bassett and Mrs. H.C. Bilyea, all of this city. She also leaves two sisters who lived abroad.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon from her late home. Burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery.
