Kenneth A. Bassett
SANDOWN -- Kenneth A. Bassett, 89, of Sandown, N.H., died peacefully at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont, N.H., Thursday, March 19, 2026.
He was born on May 3, 1936, at the family home in Sandown. He was the 13th of 16 children of Raymond K. and Priscilla (Knights) Bassett. He attended the Sandown one-room school through grade 8, going on to graduate from Sanborn Seminary High School, Kingston, N.H.
He served on the Sandown Police Department and the Sandown Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Deputy Forest Fire Warden, a charter member of the Sandown Lions Club, and he was a Little League coach. He retired from Dependable Construction Co. in Hampstead, N.H., where he worked for 30 years.
He is survived by his brothers, Donald Bassett and wife, Margery, of Epsom, N.H., Wendell Bassett of Weare, N.H., David Bassett of Penobscot, Maine, Carroll Bassett and wife, Arlene, of Sandown; and sisters-in-law, Pam Bassett of Greensboro, Georgia, and Katherine Bassett of Manchester, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Pauline (Poppy) MacGregor; his brothers, Charles and wife Shirley, Raymond and wife M. Eleanor, Norman, Robert, William, Richard, and Irving; sisters, Hazel and husband Francis, Eva and husband Warren, Martha and husband Richard, and Eleanor; as well as sisters-in-laws Barbara Bassett and Sandra Bassett.
SVC Calling hours will be held at Rock Church (St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Sandown, on Saturday, April 11, at 10 a.m. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Center Cemetery. A Mercy Meal will be offered at the Sandown Fire Station after the burial.
