JOSEPH E. BESSETTE - COLCHESTER - Joseph E. Bessette, 70, of Colchester, died Monday, April 14, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a long-term battle with diabetes. Joseph was born at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington on Jan. 28, 1944, the son of Joseph D. and Edna (Gordon) Bessette. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1962. On Oct. 19, 1968, he was married in Burlington to Joyce (Metevier) Bessette. Joe was employed for many years at various places including Shearer Chevrolet, General Electric, and the majority of his career at Harbour Industries. Joe was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Burlington. He enjoyed bowling in area leagues and was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman spending time with his son and grandson in and around Lake Champlain. Joe was predeceased by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Bessette; son, Craig Bessette and his wife, Stacy; grandson, Drew Joseph; sisters, Rose Walcott of Enosburg, and Jean Raymond of Georgia, Vt.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Church Road in Colchester.
