      Raymond E. Bassett World War II Veteran

      EPSOM - Raymond E. Bassett, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Presidential Oaks after a short illness.

      Born in Boscawen on Jan. 20, 1922, he was the son of Edward and Catherine (Lynch) Bassett.

      In 1936, he graduated from Penacook High School. A licensed master plumber and electrician, he worked for Marshall and Fred Irving and retired from Stenebekes.

      He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air force overseas as an airplane and engine mechanic. During his wartime service, he flew over the Burma Hump.

      Playing cards - especially cribbage - blueberry and strawberry picking, playing his harmonica, deer hunting, fishing and cooking brought him great enjoyment. Most importantly, sharing cherished moments with his family and friends was his greatest joy.

      Survivors include his four daughters, Brenda Farrell of her husband, Robert, of Boscawen, Rayleen Harris and her husband, William, of Hillsville, Va., Mary Sauerheber and her husband, Wayne, of Allenstown and Sally Lefebvre and her husband, Brian, of Feeding Hills, Mass.; his three stepsons, Douglas H DuVerger and his wife, Gabrielle, of Manchester, Mark D. DuVerger and his wife, Brenda, of Bradford and Timothy D. DuVerger of Nashua; one stepdaughter, Amy E. Robertson of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Eugene Bassett and his wife, Lydia, of Concord and Maurice Bassett and his wife, Dorothy, of Chambersburg, Pa.; one sister, Kathleen Foote of Penacook; a very dear friend, Beth of Epsom; as well as numerous loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

      He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Cynthia (Porter) Bassett; and his brother, John Bernie Bassett.

      Calling hours will be held today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Home, 3 Church St., Concord.

      A celebration of his life will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
