Waterford Man?s Promotion
Important Position In Canada
Many friends in Waterford will be interested to learn of the promotion of Mr. Thos. W. Bassett, who has been appointed Assistant General Manager of the Dominion Glass Company, Wallaceburg, Canada. Mr. Bassett is the fifth son of the late Mr. George W. Bassett, who was partner in the firm of Messrs. Bassett and Meredith, and resided in Catherine Street, Waterford. He was educated at the Bishop Foy School. Two other brothers are also in Canada, and a third, Mr. Benjamin Bassett, is a chemist in Malahide, Col Dublin. His only sister is the wife of Mr. C.S. Agnew, formerly of the Board of Works, Waterford, and now residing in Belfast.

Two important changes in the personnel of officials of the Dominion Glass Co. were announced on July 30th by Sir Charles B. Gordon of Montreal, president of the organization.
Thomas W. Bassett, who has been manager of the West Wallaceburg plant of the above firm for ten years has been promoted to the position of Assistant General Manager of the entire organization. Edward G. Davies, plant superintendent, is promoted to the position of plant manager. Both appointments are to be effective from September 1, the advice stated.
Mr. Bassett, who has been a resident of Wallaceburg for the past ten years, is to return to Montreal, where the head office of the firm is located. He started to work for the Dominion Glass Company 25 years ago, and was stationed at the Delorimier plant of the Diamond Flint Glass Company. The plant was closed in 1914 and for the next two years he was located at the Point St. Charles plant and the head office of the firm.
In 1916 Mr. Bassett enlisted in the 7th Canadian Siege Battery, Canadian Heavy Artillery, and served overseas for almost 3 years before returning to Canada for demobilization in 1919. Returning to the firm, Mr. Bassett worked in the Dovercourt plant in Toronto for a year.
In 1930 the Delorimier plant was re-opened for business and for the next five years Mr. Bassett held the position of plant manager. In 1925 Mr. Bassett was transferred to Wallaceburg as manager of the large plant in the West end of the town.
During the period of his stay in Wallaceburg Mr. Bassett made hundreds of friends, not only among the officials and employees of the firm, but also among the business and professional men of the town, who regret his impending departure, but congratulate him upon his well-earned promotion. Mr. Bassett has been an invaluable member of the Baldoon Golf and Country Club. He was also a member of the Business Men?s Club and also of the Chamber of Commerce.
His successor, Edawrd G. Davies, entered the service of the company in 1922, and came to Wallaceburg in 1925 with Mr. Bassett, and in the year 1929 he was appointed superintendent of the entire plant. In addition to his work at the plant, Mr. Davies had taken much interest in the town, as a whole, and served for one years as member of the town council.
He is a past president of the Kinsman Club, of which he is a very active member, and this years he holds the position of chairman of the Sunshine Committee, which administer the special fund made up each year by the Blub, through the medium of various activities, for the benefit of needy children of the town. He was contender for the position of District Governor of the Kinsman Clubs this year, and although defeated, he announced he would try again this year.
