Catherine Bass Echols
Sunrise: April 17, 1921.Sunset: Dec. 30, 2008. Sister Catherine Echols, 87, departed this life on Thursday (Dec. 30, 2008) at Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont. Catherine was born to the late Major and Lula Bass on April 17, 1921 in Enterprise. She was a homemaker, and worked at the Vilters Manufacturing Company in Milwaukee, Wis. She was a member of the Coon's Run Baptist Church in Francis Mines. She married the late Leonard McLester Echols. Mrs. Echols is survived by her twin sister, Lorraine Wills, of Fairmont; seven children, Linda Parks of Barrackville, Charles Freeman Echols of Fairmont, Mary Elizabeth Bennett of New York, Ruby Regina Washington and husband John of Fairmont, Betty Joe Hutchins and husband LaJont of Fairfield, Calif., Leonard Echols Jr. and wife Tammy of Fairmont, and Noble M. Echols and wife Karla of Fairmont; 40 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and spouse, Catherine is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Grace; three brothers, Walter, Joe, and John; and two children, Randolph and Shirley Ann. Friends may call the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston, from 5-8 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at the Coon's Run Baptist Church on Saturday at noon with Pastor Michael Little officiating. Interment will follow at the Stonewall Park Cemetery, Stonewood.
