      Mary Jane “Jeanny” Bessette

      Mary Jane "Jeanny" Bessette, 96, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at the Franklin Carriage House in Franklin. Jeanny was born Feb. 2, 1915, in St. Lambert, Quebec, one of 11 children (all of whom predeceased her) to the late Hilaire and Mary (Boisvert) Despres. She was married to Victor Bessette on Apr. 13, 1942, who predeceased her on Dec. 2, 1998. Jeanny, as she was affectionately known and her husband were proprietors of Vic's Grill in Richford for many years before retiring to Colchester to be near their daughter, Diane and her family. Jeanny is survived by her daughter, Diane Larose and her husband, David of St. Albans; her grandchildren, Nathan Larose and wife Meghan of Boston, Mass. and Michelle Larose Shields and husband, Robert of Wayland, Mass.; greatgrandchildren, Julia Shields and Alexandra Shields. Jeanny is also survived by many friends and several nieces and nephews. Jeanny especially enjoyed spending summers at her cottage on Lake Carmi, where there were always friend and family gatherings that included fishing, boating, camp fires, fish frys, "500" card games and conversation. Jeanny also enjoyed and was known for her excellent sewing skills. Jeanny divided her time between her daughter's home and the Franklin Carriage House Assisted Living Facility for the past eight years. The family is forever grateful to the Carriage House and its devoted, caring staff for providing constant love and care to Jeanny and her family during this time. Jeanny had many good friends that were residents of the Carriage House that brightened her days as well. The family would like to especially acknowledge Lorna Taft and Jean Thompson, Jeanny's primary caregivers for their wonderful, loving care. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in her memory to Franklin Homestead Inc., 114 Homestead Drive, Franklin, Vt. 05457 to benefit Carriage House residents. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. Roger Charbonneau celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Richford. A time of visitation will be held Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
