      Alvin Wade Bass
      February 4, 1960 ? September 16, 2026

Alvin Wade Bass, known to those who loved him as Al, was born in Bonifay, Florida, on February 4, 1960, and grew up in Panama City. In 1982, he moved to Tallahassee to manage a Firestone Tire store.

The following year, Al married his high school sweetheart, Cathleen ?Cathi? Bass. Together, they shared more than four decades of marriage filled with love, devotion, laughter, hard work, and countless memories. Cathi was Al?s partner in every sense of the word. They built their life through everyday moments, raising their family, supporting one another, facing challenges, and celebrating the joys along the way. Their relationship was a lasting example of commitment, friendship, and a love that grew stronger through the years.

In 1993, Al opened Bass Tire and Auto Repair, a business he owned and managed for more than 30 years. He became known not only for his skill and edication, but also for the care he showed his customers, friends, and neighbors. The business was more than a place where people brought their vehicles; it was part of Al?s legacy of hard work, integrity, and a willingness to help others. He poured his time, energy, and heart into creating something lasting, something that supported his family, served his community, and reflected the values he lived by. Al sold his business and retired in 2023.

Al gave his all to everything he did. Whether he was building, creating, fixing, or helping someone, he never believed in doing anything halfway. He was known for ?overbuilding?, making things bigger and stronger than necessary, because that was simply his way of doing things. Al believed in doing a job right, standing behind his word, and leaving things better than
      he found them.

At 6 feet 4 inches tall, Al was often the biggest man in the room. Yet what stood out most was the size of his heart. Beneath his strong exterior was a kind, generous, and deeply devoted man. He was also a natural peacemaker, bringing calm, understanding, and compassion to those around him. Al had a way of making people feel safe, valued, and cared for, and his presence brought steadiness to his family and community.

Al was beloved by all who knew him. To his family, he was a source of wisdom and guidance, a steady presence they could turn to for honest advice, encouragement, and support. He taught those around him not only through his words, but also through the way he lived: working hard, loving deeply, serving others, and remaining faithful to the people and responsibilities entrusted to him.

Al was immensely proud of his children, and his grandchildren. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart. They knew him as Papi, who delighted in sneaking them ice cream and cookies behind their parents? backs. Through his children and grandchildren, Al?s legacy will continue in the values he instilled, the traditions he created, the stories they will tell, and the love he gave so freely.

Al?s care for others extended far beyond his family. He was a member of Deer Lake Church and served for many years on the Missions Committee. Many Saturdays found him helping others, often participating in ramp builds and giving his time and talents wherever they were needed. He built more than ramps, businesses, and projects; he built relationships and a reputation for
being someone others could count on. His mission trips took him overseas and to Mexico. Al walked with Jesus, faithfully trusting his promises. His faith was not something he just believed, it was the foundation in his life; a source of purpose and hope. He would want his friends and family to know that he is resting in the presence of his Savior. His faith and confidence in that hope can bring comfort to those who loved him. We know this is not goodbye
but a joyful reunion to come.

Al is survived by his wife, Cathleen ?Cathi? Bass; his mother, Georgia Bass; his brothers, Raymond ?Ray? Bass and Timothy ?Tim? Bass; his children, Alison (Chris) Earnest, Morgan (Brandon) Fitch, and Hayden (Kelsey) Bass; his grandchildren, Cabella, Truett, Emerson, Tucker, Casey, and Barrett; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Bascom Junior Bass, and his younger sister, Frances Elizabeth Bass Suggs.

Al will be remembered for his strength, generosity, hard work, devotion to Cathi and his family, and service to his community. Together, Al and Cathi built a life and legacy that will continue through their children, grandchildren, family, friends, and all those whose lives he impacted. His
love, wisdom, faith, and larger-than-life spirit will remain with all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the Deer Lake Missions team as they continue to serve in and around the Tallahassee area.
