- Find-a-Grave Obituary
Ruth Ann Fout
d. November 2023
A traditional biography cannot capture the essence of my Nannie, Ruth Ann Fout. What matters most is the truth of her life, the love she shared, and the betrayals that cast a shadow over her final days. Nannie's warmth and kindness touched everyone she met, and as her grandson, I cherish her memory with all my heart. Though her life was marked by pain?both endured and caused?her love remains my greatest treasure.
Battling Alzheimer's, Nannie deserved to pass peacefully in her beloved Virginia Beach home at 5018 Ashforth Ct, where she had lived since 1975, surrounded by her family's love. Instead, she died in secrecy in a Florida hospital in November 2023, among strangers and her son, Tommy?whose identity, whether Fout or Bass, remains uncertain?an alcoholic who inherited the benefits of her estate. Even Geoff's daughters were outraged by Tommy's decision to conceal Nannie's death, deliberately delaying the announcement beyond Florida's 90-day will contestation period to prevent challenges to a will and power of attorney he had her alter while she was terminally ill with Alzheimer's.
Tommy took Nannie to his Florida home, sold her cherished house, and had her cremated, disregarding her heartfelt wish to be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Alfred Lee Fout Jr., at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia. These actions stripped us of the opportunity to honor her memory as she deserved, deepening my sorrow. I sought only her love, not material possessions, but Tommy's calculated decisions robbed me of even that.
Nannie's life was a poignant story of resilience and sorrow. She and her husband, Alfred, worked tirelessly to buy a home they cherished, only for it to be sold out from under her, denying her the dignity of passing in her own bed. Scarred by the flaws and demons inherited from her mother, Mary Nida, who withheld love, and her father, who neglected her?both also lost to Alzheimer's?Nannie's life was shaped by a fractured, dysfunctional family and she deserved better. I walked away from that family years ago, losing precious time with Nannie and Alfred. Yet, the memories of her love and the joyful moments we shared remain my strength.
As I close this painful chapter, I pray Nannie rests peacefully with Alfred, where her heart truly belongs.
I'll love you forever, Nannie.
