James ?Bucky? Bass

James Carl "Bucky" Bass (age 57) passed away in Hattiesburg MS, the city of his birth, on October 3, 2026. James was born on June 27, 1969 (the day after his father's birthday that year), the second born of a family of 4 children. He was named in honor of his grandfather James Finch and his step-grandfather Carl Peck. He was a graduate of Lumberton High School (1987) and the University of Mississippi (1991). He accepted Christ at a young age, and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Lumberton, later joining St. Fabian Catholic Church in Hattiesburg. He enjoyed painting and the mountains, living in West Virginia and Utah for many years. He was a jokester and a natural storyteller. He was preceded in death by his father Houston Bass III, and his sister Mary Helen Bass Deli.
Survivors include his mother, Susan Finch Bass; his brothers Houston Bass IV (wife, Sandy) and David Bass (wife, Marci); his nieces and nephews - Kayla Bass Buchan (husband, Jared), Cara Bass Schlosser (husband, David), Houston Stewart Bass (wife, Adriana), Garrison Bass and Amelie Bass, and many aunts and uncles, cousins, and great-nephews and nieces.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026. Visitation will be at Moore Funeral Home, 805 Hardy Street, Hattiesburg MS at 12:30 pm, and services will be at 1:30 pm.
