Leonard "Lenny" Burl Bass, 75, entered into rest on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Born in Centralia IL, he was a son of the late John H Bass and the late Freda Smith Bass.
Lenny will be remembered for his generous heart, quick wit, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a way of making people laugh and a gift for finding a solution to just about any problem. If something needed fixing, he could usually fix it himself or knew exactly who to call. He was the kind of man who would go out of his way to help someone else, never hesitating to put the needs of others before his own.
Above all, Lenny was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. His wife and girls were his greatest earthly joy, and loving and caring for them was one of his greatest priorities. He treasured his family and took pride in the love they shared. Even in his final days, when he was facing so much himself, his concern remained with those around him. That selflessness was a reflection of the heart he carried throughout his life.
His love for Jesus was the foundation of who he was, and his faith remained at the center of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, laughter, and faith that will continue to live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched. Though his family will miss his presence, his laughter, and the comfort of knowing he was always there when they needed him, they find peace in knowing that he is now at home with his Savior.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pamela D. Bass; daughter, Dawn Bass Pappas (Danny); grandchildren, Megan Townsend (Page, Jr.), Lillian Pappas; step-grandchildren, Hannah Farmer (Kris), D.J. Pappas (Hannah); step great-granddaughter, Daphne Pappas; brothers, Howard Bass (Phyllis), Bob Bass (Adele); numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18th, 2026 at Bay Branch Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
