Richmond Carroll Bass, Jr., 89, of Columbia died on August 30, 2015, at The Bluffs in Columbia. “Rich” was born to Richmond Carroll Bass and Doris Jamison Bass on February 17, 1926, in Plantersville, Mississippi. He spent his early years in Plantersville and moved to Tupelo, Mississippi, with his family in 1941. He had three sisters: Linda Bass Henderson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and she survives; Jenny Marie Laughlin and Mary Katherine Bass preceded him in death. He married Dorothy Workman Bass (Dot) in 1947, and she survives. Richmond and Dorothy have four children: Beth Simpson and husband Andy, of Columbia; Richmond C. Rich joyfully welcomed eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren into the family.
Richmond and Dot lived many years in the Memphis, Tennessee, area and moved to Columbia in 2006 to be near family. Rich was dedicated to his work in the transportation industry and serving as a sales representative for Myers Tire Supply. He especially enjoyed family gatherings, which have continued since he and Dorothy moved to The Bluffs. Richmond was a lifelong Methodist and a Shriner. He enjoyed gardening and reading Louis L’Amour westerns and had read well over a hundred at last count. He was a gifted story-teller, and his reminiscences will be treasured by his family for years to come.
