Death of Mrs. Rodney G. Bassett
Mrs. Rodney G. Bassett died at the hospital in this city this morning at 3:40 o?clock. Mrs. Bassett had been in ill health for several years, and during the past few months her condition had been growing weaker and her death was not unexpected. She had been in the hospital since last July. The funeral was held at the Universalist church Monday afternoon at 1:30 o?clock.
Mrs. Lucy Amelia Willard, widow of Rodney G. Bassett, was born in North Montpelier, October 11, 1830, being the daughter of John Jan and Lucy Clark Willard. She was married to Mr. Bassett January 21, 1849, and one daughter, Abbie M., was born to them. She lived until October 10, 1851, aged 1 year and 10 months. Mrs. Bassett brought up a nephew, Dr. J.J. Willard, who resided with her from the time he was 8 years old and who was as dear to her as an own son could have been. After the death of her husband in 1895 Mrs. Bassett made her home with this nephew in Pueblo, Colo., until the time of his death in march, 1898, when she returned to this city. She is survived by one daughter Fitch E. Willard, of East Montpelier, one nephew, and four nieces.
Mrs. Bassett was an active member of the Universalist society and was a constant attendant on the services of that church when her health permitted.
