Marc A. Bassett
September 1, 1956 ? June 11, 2025
Marc Bassett, aged 68 of Carbondale passed away on June 11th, 2025. He was known by many by his full name and big personality. He was a jack of all trades, literally and figuratively.
Marc was born on September 1, 1956, in Beverly, Mass., to Joseph Bassett and Dorothy Richards (Morphew). From a young age, Marc knew how to work hard and play hard; from working at the family dairy farm or designing furniture for Ethan Allen, to building and crashing glider planes and raising pet squirrels.
Upon graduating from high school, Marc set out in his Volkswagen Bug for California, only to blow a head gasket and take a job in Aspen, CO in 1976. Over the next 50 years in the Roaring Fork Valley he would pester the local wildlife, find and marry the love of his life, and put his stamp on just about every industry around. He said "yes" to life and lived his faith in action as an involved community member. He was a volunteer firefighter throughout the valley with 20+ years with the Carbondale Rural Fire Department, receiving the Lifesaver Award and ending his career there as a Captain. More than anything, Marc loved his wife and family and everything he did was for them.
Marc is survived by his wife, Erin Bassett; children Jeremiah Bassett (Rachel), Natalie Bassett Baca (Brent), Jessica Spicer; grandchildren Jack and Austin Bassett and Wesley Baca; two brothers Jon and Dana Bassett. He had many unofficially adopted "kids" that he loved and mentored. He is preceded in death by his parents and many good friends.
A Celebration of Life is planned for July 26th, 2025, at 2pm at The Orchard church in Carbondale, CO. Reception immediately following.
An annual golf tournament, the Hang 'Em High Invitational, is scheduled for July 25th, 2025 at 8:30am at River Valley Ranch.
Marc Bassett was a man of many lives and innumerable stories. We are encouraging those who knew Marc to write a story of him to be included in a book for his grandchildren; stationery and pre-addressed envelopes will be provided at the service.
