      Fred Edward Bassett

      Fred Edward Bassett, 88, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
      A family graveside service will be held on Friday, June 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Norman, Oklahoma. A memorial service celebrating Fred's life will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls with Dr. Paul Goodrich officiating. Following the memorial service, the family will receive visitors until 12:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
      Fred was born January 9, 1935 in Bradley, Oklahoma to Jewel and Fred Bassett. He was a graduate of Chickasha High School in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
      After graduating from OU, Fred owned credit reporting related businesses in Chickasha and was involved in the community there. In 1973, an opportunity arose for him to purchase a credit reporting company in Wichita Falls, and he and his family relocated here from Chickasha.
      Family, faith, and giving back to the community were important to Fred. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a long-time member of Floral Heights United Methodist Church and was involved in many lay leadership roles there. Fred served one term on the Wichita Falls City Council and participated in leadership roles in Rotary Club, United Way, and Salvation Army, but one of his greatest joys was serving Meals on Wheels.
      Fred's passion for all things OU was well known, and his favorite song was "Boomer Sooner!"
      Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Jo Nell Bassett Millington; brother-in-law Seth Millington; and sister-in-law Ellen Millington.
      He is survived by his wife, Lynn Bassett, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Melanie Wright and son-in-law, Greg Wright of Wichita Falls; son, Brad Bassett and daughter-in-law, Stacy Bassett of Rockwall, Texas; grandsons, Davis Wright of Lubbock, Texas, Brennen Bassett and wife, Macy of Fate, Texas; Parker Bassett and Carson Bassett of Rockwall; and granddaughter Ann-Peyton Wright of Wichita Falls; Fred is also survived by a great-granddaughter, great-grandson, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Fred's name to Meals on Wheels Wichita County www.mowwc.org or Salvation Army www.salvationarmyusa.org.
