Neita Marie Bass Rhodes Taylor
Neita Marie Bass Rhodes Taylor, of Quitman, passed away on May 20, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center. Mrs. Taylor was born on May 3, 1926 to J H Bass and Minnie Roach Bass, of Brooks County.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband, Donald Taylor, her daughter, Velma (Henry) Rhodes, of Tallahassee; two sons Donald (Dawn ) Taylor, of Barney, and Wilson Taylor, of Jacksonville and a son-in-law, Junior Pulliam, of Madison. She is also survived by three brothers Charles and Ellis (Gladys) Bass, of Madison and Jerry (Christine) Bass of Cherry Lake, Fla; two sisters Minnie Lee Newborn, of Madison, and Fannie Mae "Mutt" (George) Purvis, of Monticello, Fla; eight grandchildren Cheryl (Jody) Revell and Sheldon (Shannon) Bratcher, of Tallahassee, Keith (Tery) Bratcher, of Crawfordville, Fla., David Pulliam , of Madison, Michael (Kim) Taylor , of Panama City, Deidra Taylor, David Taylor and Millie Taylor, all of Valdosta.
Mrs. Taylor is predeceased by a daughter, Evelyn Rhodes Pulliam and a son, Steven Rhodes and Mrs Taylor's first husband, Junior Rhodes. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Russell and Lucille Bass, brother in law, Enoch Newborn, and brother in law and sister-in-law, Louie and Carolyn Rhodes.
Mrs Taylor lived most of her life in the Madison and Brooks County areas and was an active member of Ochlawilla Baptist Church since she accepted Christ and joined the church in 1936. She worked as an upholsterer at Madison House and later returned to school and became a LPN and worked several years at Presbyterian Home in Quitman.
She was active in NARFE for many years and served as secretary for the association. She was past treasurer for Old Columbia Cemetery and served as clerk for the Mercer Association in Brooks County. She was a talented seamstress and made many beautiful quilts. She was historian for Ochlawilla Baptist Church and loved the study of genealogy. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She truly had a loving spirit and lived to serve others.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011 in the chapel at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison, Fla. Burial will follow in Redland Cemetery in Lowndes County. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Beggs Funeral ome. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Ochlawilla Baptist Church, 1315 Ochlawilla Rd, Quitman, Ga 31643.
