      Reardon Bessette Dies at 38

      HERMON – Reardon E. Bessette, 38, formerly of Pyrites, died at 3:45 this morning at the Edward John Noble Hospital, Canton. An autopsy will be performed.
      A military funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the O’Leary Funeral Home, Canton, and at 9:30 in St. Mary’s Church, Canton. Msgr J. Albert O’Brien, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
      Friends may call Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening at the funeral home.
      He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Margaret Bessette; a step-daughter, Cindy, 14; three step-sons, Edward, 13, Carl, 10 and Patrick, 4 all at home; his father, Bert, Russell; three sisters, Mrs. Milton (Anne) Scott, Russell, Mrs. Neil (Noreene) Sheridan, Canton, and Mrs. Donald (Elevene) Corbine, Russell; four brothers, Burton, Russell, Nelson, Gerald and Warren, a twin, all of Canton.
      Born Jan. 17, 1932, in the Town of Pyrites, a son of Bert and the late Nora Warren Bessette, he attended schools in the Canton vicinity and joined the Massena operations of Alcoa. In 1952 he entered the Army, serving in Korea until 1954. He received the Bronze Star and a certificate of achievement for meritorious service and valor.
      Returning from the service, he rejoined Alcoa until 1956, when he moved to the family farm at Pyrites and assisted his father in its operation. For the last year he had been employed by Edson J. Martin, wholesale distributors, in Canton. On Jan. 17, 1870, he married Mrs. Mrs. Margaret Cook of Hermon at St. Paul’s Church, Pyrites. Rev. Thomas Moody, assistant pastor, St. Maryu’s Church, Canton, officiated.
      He was assistant chief of the Pyrites Fire Department and was a member of the Canton VFW and its firing squad.

      Reardon E. Bessette, 19, Enlists in Regular Army

      Reardon E. Bessette, 19, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Bert J. Bessette, Star Route, left Monday for Fort Devans, Mass., to undertake basic training.
      Bessette enlisted at the local recruiting office for twenty-four months.
      He has one brother in the service, Sgt. Berton F., who recently returned from Korea. Sgt. Bessette is now spending a furlough at the home of parents and will be stationed at Fort Devans at the end of his leave.
