Standley Eugene Bass
SPRING HOPE - Standley Eugene Bass, 82, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014. He was born April 4, 1931 in Nash County to the late Goodman and Alvarhada Manning Bass. Standley was a Korean War Veteran who served in the US Army. When he returned home, he began farming and was well known for his watermelon crops. Standley also worked with the US Postal Service, where he retired with 24 years of service as a rural letter carrier. He was a member of Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church, where he held many positions. He loved baseball and softball and played both for many years. Standley will be remembered as a wonderful family man and he will be missed dearly. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Earl Bass and brother-in-law, Curtis Batchelor.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 59 years, Paula Swain Bass, one son, Lance Bass and wife Courtney, one daughter, Lori Mills and husband Timmy, one brother, Ronald Bass and wife Martha, two sisters; Mozelle Batchelor, Nan Bissette and husband Jerry, sister-in-law, Rosalene Bass, grandchildren; Brandon Bass, Taylor, Trevor and Trey Mills, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery of Spring Hope.
