Treymayne Bass: Decatur boy in fatal shooting named
DECATUR ? The 16-year-old Decatur boy shot dead in what appears to be an accident was identified Monday as Treymayne Bass.
A news release from Macon County Coroner Michael E. Day said Bass was pronounced dead in the emergency room of Decatur Memorial Hospital at 3:20 a.m. Saturday.
"The preliminary post mortem findings indicate the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest," said Day.
Decatur police said the shooting happened at a home in the 600 block of West William Street and Jayden M. Michniewicz, 18, has been booked on a preliminary charge of involuntary manslaughter.
"...The 16-year-old victim was visiting Michniewicz's residence when a firearm was being handled," the police said in a statement.
"During the transfer of the firearm it discharged, striking the victim. The Decatur Police Department continues to thoroughly investigate this tragic incident to include following up on leads as to how this firearm was obtained."
All preliminary charges are subject to review by the office of the state's attorney.

Tremayne Bass, a beloved son, brother, and friend. At the young age of 16, Tremayne's life was tragically cut short, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and a gentle spirit.
Tremayne was born and raised in Decatur, IL to his loving parents, Donntrisa S. Jones, and Roosevelt L. Bass. From a young age, his mother instilled in him the values of faith and hard work. Tremayne was a faithful member of Main Street Church, where he actively participated in the youth department. His commitment to his faith and his role as a youth worker made a lasting impact on his peers and community. In addition to his dedication to the church, Tremayne was also a diligent worker at Mcdonald?S. Tremayne?s commitment to his job reflected his character - humble, reliable, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Education held a special place in Tremayne's heart. He attended Decatur public schools district 61, where he embraced his love for learning and made lasting friendships. Currently, he was pursuing his dreams at Richland Community College, with aspirations to become a mechanic.
Outside of his studies and work, Tremayne enjoyed spending time playing video games and watching football. These hobbies provided him with moments of joy and relaxation, allowing him to unwind and connect with his friends and loved ones. Tremayne's love for his siblings and parents was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Tremayne was a humble giant - a young man with a heart full of compassion, a dedication to his faith, and a determination to achieve his dreams. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his parents, Roosevelt L. Bass and Donntrisa S. Jones; siblings, Treyondias Jones, Quinisha Bass, DanTerion Knight, Tarajia Jones, Trinitee Jones, TaHyra Jones, Cimone Bass, Lyric Bass, and Tyion Edmonds-Jones; grandparents, Leatrice ?Sissy?
