BASSETT (MAGNER) - Warwick - Catherine E. Bassett, 77, of Pitman Road, a
retired switchboard operator, died yesterday at Health Haven Nursing Home, in
Coventry. She was the wife of the late Theodore R. Bassett. Born in West
Warwick, a daughter of the late John T. Magner Sr. and Mildred (Duffy) Magner,
she had lived in West Warwick and Warwick for most of her life. Mrs. Bassett
had been a switchboard operator for the former New England Telephone Co., now
Verizon, for eight years, and for the former Kent County Memorial Hospital,
now Kent Hospital, for eight years before retiring. She was a member of the
Warwick Jaycees. Mrs. Bassett was a communicant of St. Kevin Church. She
enjoyed arts and crafts, dancing, acting and the theater. She leaves a son,
Paul M. Bassett Sr., a daughter, Nancy J. Haibon, and two brothers, James T.
Magner Jr. and Francis Magner, all of Warwick; seven grandchildren; a
great-granddaughter. She was the mother of the late James E. Bassett, and the
sister of the late Mary Douglas and Maureen Hollis. The funeral will be held
Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick
Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Kevin Church, Sandy Lane.
Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
