      It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share with you, our beautiful, beloved Mother Norma has peacefully passed away at home on Monday June 24, 2024. While heartbroken, we feel at peace knowing that she can be at rest now after a hard-fought battle after her stroke.

      Norma was born in Springfield MA on April 26, 1924 to the late Joseph and Ercelia (Lalli) Mastrangelo. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She successfully raised her family while partnering with her husband Louis W. Bassett, Sr. to establish Bassett Boat Co. Inc., a bait and tackle shop that ultimately grew into a large retail boat dealership in New England, still in business today with an eighty-year legacy. She was a longtime parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Springfield MA.

      Some of Norma's favorite things included time with family, fitness walking, a round of golf, playing and singing at the piano, boating and besting her opponent in card game. Norma will always be remembered for a life well lived and a legacy of kindness and thoughtfulness that she extended to everyone that knew her.

      She leaves to cherish her memory her children Louis W. Bassett Jr. and his wife Carol, Nancy A. Bassett and her husband Denis Gagnon, Richard R. Bassett, and Diane Bassett Zable and her husband Paul, grandchildren Joseph, Timothy and Michael Bassett, Denis Gagnon Jr., Thomas and William Gagnon, Catherine LaFave, Matthew and Robert Bassett, Norell, John Paul and Ryan Zable, great grandchildren Anthony, Gabrielle, Ava, Chase, Isla, James, William, Joseph, Elizabeth, Jacqueline, Michael, and Nicholas, her sister Diana Turowsky, her brother Richard Mastrangelo, and many extended family and dear friends.

      She was predeceased by her loving husband Louis W. Bassett, Sr., her brothers Vincent and Donald Mastrangelo and her sister Christine Novak.

      Family and friends are invited to her visitation on Thursday June 27, 2024 from 4-7pm at Forastiere Smith Funeral & Cremation, 220 N Main St., East Longmeadow MA. Her funeral will be on Friday June 28, 2024 starting at 8:45am in the funeral home, followed in procession to her Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William St., Springfield MA. Her burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery, Springfield MA. Memorial contributions may be made in Norma's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.
