Mrs. Callie Bass Celebrates her 83rd Birthday
A family reunion was held August 4 at the home of Mrs. Callie Bass, her 83rd birthday, her children serving the dinner.
Mrs. Bass has lived in Sour Lake 45 years. She has 101 living direct descendants, among whom are six children ? three sons, Lewis Bass, Evangeline, La., Luther Bass, Texas City, Elmer Bass, Sour Lake; and three daughters, Mrs. J.H. Rutherford, Cleveland, Mrs. W.B. Reyburn, Moss Hill, and Mrs. C.L. Linscomb, Sour Lake. She was 31 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Those attending were: Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Rutherford of Cleveland, Tex., Mrs. B.F. Besheans, and daughter, Cleveland, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. McShan and children, Cleveland, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. McQuine and children of Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bass and daughter of Evangeline, La., Mrs. Jhonston and children of Lake Charles, La., Mrs. Langston and children of Lake Charles, La., Mr. and Mrs. Earl Phillips and granddaughter, Texas City, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Linscomb, Mr. Bobby Lincsomb and daughter, Shandala, Mr. Elemer Bass, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lester of Grayburg, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rutherford and son of Houston, Mrs. Dale Rutherford and baby of Houston, Miss Diane of Houston.
Five generations were present at the reunion. The Rev. C. H. Garrison, pastor of the Sour Lake Gospel Tabernacle, of which Mrs. Bass is a member, gave the invocation and spoke briefly to the relatives and friends.
Besides the other many gifts Mrs. Bass received, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bennett, members of her church, presented her a beautifully decorated birthday cake.
